A Bone Densitometry procedure or DEXA Scan is a procedure that measures a patient’s bone loss. This procedure is used to detect osteoporosis.

Patients should arrive at the South Hanover facility 20 minutes prior to their scheduled appointment to register.
What to Expect:
The Bone Densitometry Procedure does not require any prior patient preparation. The procedure will take approximately 10 minutes.

CT Scans, Computed Tomography Scans provide image data from different angles around the body and uses computer processing of the information to show a cross-section of body tissues and organs. CT imaging is particularly useful because it assists in the diagnosis of cancers, cardiovascular disease, infectious disease, trauma and muscoloskeletal disorders.

What to Expect:
Patients will be contacted 24 hours prior to their exam to remind them of their appointment time and to question them regarding any allergies.
Patients scheduled for a CT Scan at the Hospital must register at Outpatient Registration prior to coming to the Imaging Services Department. Patients scheduled at Hillside should arrive 20 minutes prior to the scan and will register at the Imaging Services suite.
Most CT procedures take approximately15 minutes.
Contrast: Depending upon the diagnosis and the patient’s age, a physician may request contrast. Physicians are asked to determine if the patient has any allergies. Pre-medication and/or lab work may be necessary prior to the exam.

is the fastest and easiest way for a physician to view and assess broken bones, joint or
spine injuries.

What to Expect:
Patients who come to the Hospital for x-rays must register at Outpatient Registration prior to coming to the Imaging Services Department. Patients using a satellite location, will register at that location.
The length of time for an x-ray will vary depending upon the type of x-ray being done.

What to Expect:
Patients scheduled for a Fluoroscopic Procedure at the Hospital must register at Outpatient Registration prior to coming to the Imaging Services Department. Patients scheduled at Hillside should arrive 20 minutes prior to the scan and will register at the Imaging Services suite.
The length of time for Fluoroscopic Procedures may vary. Patients undergoing a Small Bowel Series should expect a 3-4 hour time period to complete the procedure. Patients should carefully follow their physician’s instructions on procedure preparations.

Mammography is a specific type of imaging that uses a low-dose x-ray system for the examination of breasts. A mammography exam, called a mammogram, is used as a screening tool to detect early breast cancer in women experiencing no symptoms and to detect and diagnose breast disease.
Hanover Hospital Mammography images are complimented by the R2 Computer Aided Detection System.

What to Expect:
Patients scheduled at the Hospital, should report directly to the Women’s Imaging Center. If the patient uses a satellite location, they may register at that location 20 minutes prior to the procedure.
Patients should not use underarm deodorant or body powder prior to the exam.
Mammogram procedures and Breast Ultrasound procedures take approximately 20-30 minutes. Patients scheduled for a Breast Biopsy should anticipate a 90- minute procedure.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) uses radio waves and a strong magnetic to provide detailed pictures of internal organs and tissues. The parts of the muscoloskeletal system that are most frequently imaged with MRI are the spine, knee and shoulder. MRI has also been used to study joints in the body including the hips, wrists, and hands.

What to Expect:
Patients scheduled for a Closed MRI at Hanover Hospital must register at Out Patient Registration prior to coming to the Imaging Services Department. Patients scheduled at Hillside should arrive 20 minutes prior to the scan and will register at the Imaging Services suite.
Patients will receive procedure preparations from the ordering physician. Most MRI procedures last one hour per procedure. Procedures done on the Open MRI System may take longer.
