Nursing Research is the term used to describe the evidenced used to support nursing practice. Nursing, as an evidence based area of practice, has been developing since the time of Florence Nightingal to the present day.
The National Institute of Nursing Research is an arm of the National Institutes of Health. It has been in existence since 1986. Its purpose is to establish a scientific basis for nursing care and thereby improve the quality of the care which nurses deliver. It supports research through grants to universities and other research organizations and to healthcare and community institutions. It supports collaborative research with other healh professions and conducts research in its' labs on the campus of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. This website provides links to a number of nursing organizations, governmental agencies, and other research supporting organizations.
