LIFE SUPPORT

Hanover Hospital provides the following life support classes.  These classes are offered to both the community and Hanover Hospital employees.  Registration is due one week prior to the class.  For additional information, please contact Trish Lentz, EMT-B, Training Center Coordinator at (717) 646-6889 or lentzp@hanoverhospital.org.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

This course is an intensive, multi-disciplinary program that presents the theory and current practice of the standardized approach toward cardiopulmonary resuscitation.  The program incorporates both didactic and practical sessions during instruction and evaluation.  Participants include physicians, ED and CCA nurses, paramedics, and other health care professionals.

(Initial)

  • You must have a current Health Care Provider CPR card or equivalent
  • Text is included in the price of the Initial Course
  • Cost:  Hanover Hospital employees: $80.00/ Non-hospital: $135.00
  • Length:  16 hrs (over 2 days)

(Renewal)

  • You must have a current Health Care Provider CPR card or equivalent and a current ACLS card
  • You may purchase a text for $25.00, not included in the cost of the course
  • Cost:  Hanover Hospital employees: $35.00/ Non-hospital: $70.00
  • Length:   8 hours

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

This course provides the student with the information and skills needed to recognize, resuscitate, and stabilize infants and children in respiratory failure, shock, or cardiopulmonary arrest.  The functional survival of critically ill and injured children is influenced by the provision of timely and appropriate pediatric emergency care in both the prehospital and hospital environments.

  • You must have a current Health Care Provider CPR card or equivalent
  • Text is included in the price of the Initial Course
  • Cost:  Hanover Hospital employees: $90.00/ Non-hospital: $145.00
  • Length:  16 hrs (over 2 days)

(Renewal)

  • You must have a current Health Care Provider CPR card or equivalent and a current PALS card
  • You may purchase a text for $35.00, not included in the cost of the course
  • Cost:  Hanover Hospital employees: $45.00/ Non-hospital: $80.00
  • Length:   8 hrs

Basic Life Support (BLS)

This course teaches you actions and interventions used to treat, stabilize, and resuscitate victims of cardiac arrest or respiratory arrest.  These BLS actions and interventions include recognition of a cardiac or respiratory emergency or stroke, activation of the emergency response system, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, use of an AED, and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction.

  • Cost:  Non-hospital employees $50.00
  • Length:   6 hrs

(Renewal)

  • You must have a current HCP/CPR card or equivalent
  • Text is included in the cost of the course
  • Cost:   $35.00
  • Length: 4 hrs

Community CPR

CPR Classes are held routinely for the community.  Registration for classes is necessary in person, or by mail.

Heart Saver:  (Adult/Infant/Child)

This course is to teach the lay rescuer how to recognize and treat life-threatening emergencies, including cardiac arrest and choking.  You will also learn to recognize the warning signs of heart attacks and strokes in adults and signs of breathing difficulty in children.

Heartsaver AED  (Automated External Defibrillator)

The Heartsaver AED Course teaches the basic techniques of adult CPR and use of an AED.  Students also learn about using barrier devices in CPR and giving first aid for choking.  The course teaches how to recognize the signs of 4 major emergencies: heart attack, stroke, cardiac arrest, and foreign-body airway obstruction.

First Aid 

This course will teach you how to give immediate care that you give to a victim of an illness or injury before professional medical rescuers arrive.

Medical Terminology 

The Dean Vaughn Medical Terminology 350 Course is a fourteen-lesson course of unique audiovisual instruction and interactive workbook activities designed for total learning retention.   This remarkable instructional system teaches the student to easily remember, pronounce and apply 350 prefixes, roots, and suffixes that combine to form over 11,000 medical terms in an average participation time in only 16 hours.
