Be Tobacco-Free in 2010: Register Now for "Freedom From Smoking"
December 17, 2009 -
Why quit today? A September 2009 study from the American Heart Association found that smoking as few as three cigarettes daily raises the risk of cardiovascular disease by 65 percent. Researchers also found that smoking half a pack of cigarettes per day raised the risk of dying from heart disease by 79 percent, while smoking a pack a day increased the risk 100 percent.
The beginning of a brand new year is the perfect time to make smart and healthy changes in your lifestyle. We can help you become one of the growing number of people who have successfully quit and are reaping the many health and money-saving benefits of being tobacco-free.
The next “Freedom From Smoking™” program begins Monday, January 4. Classes will be held weekly from 6 – 7:30 p.m. through February 15, at Hanover Hospital in Conference Room A, located on the third floor. The group will meet twice during week #4: January 25 and 27.
“Freedom From Smoking™” is an empowering course that helps uncover the effective ways to quit smoking and determine which method is best suited for you. Topics in this fun and no-pressure class include stress management, behavior modification, weight and exercise management and lifestyle issues as they relate to smoking.
Quitting can also mean more money in your pocket. The typical “pack a day” smoker spends $2,007 a year on cigarettes.
Prior participants have had great success! 76 percent of participants in Hanover’s “Freedom From Smoking” courses have quit by the end of the class. Those who did not quit by the end of the program averaged an 84 percent reduction in the number of cigarettes smoked per day after completing the course.
