Hanover Hospital Auxiliary Presents $72,086 to Hanover Hospital

The Hanover Hospital Auxiliary presented a total of $72,086 to Hanover Hospital at their recent Annual Membership Meeting program, which was held at the Altland House in Abbottstown.    The guest speaker was Malorie Lander, a Registered Dietitian and Nutritionist at Hanover Hospital who discussed heart-healthy nutrition.

A check for $25,000 was presented to Marilyn Olejnik, Hanover Hospital CFO, by Renee Borromeo, President of the Auxiliary, which will be used towards the purchase of necessary medical equipment.  Additional monies contributed by the Auxiliary this year include:  $15,000 for the Special Needs Fund, which provides financial assistance for health-related needs; $13,000 to the Education Gifts/Grant, $7,280 for Baby Care Videos & DVDs; $3,500 to the Marketing Department for imprinted Frisbee giveaways; $3,386 to purchase furniture for the Patient Advocacy Room; $1,000 to the Wellness Connection;   $1,000 each to two graduates of the Hanover Practical Nursing Program with the highest scholastic averages; $500 to Volunteer Services for the annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon; $500 to the CARE Club; $270 to purchase flowers for Patient Appreciation Day;  $250 to purchase a $500 savings bond awarded to the first baby born at Hanover Hospital in the new year; $200 to the Civil War Living History Weekend, and $200 to the Patient Safety “Butterfly Program.”

An additional $15,000 in Educational Gifts, over and above the $72,086 mentioned above, was awarded to ten hospital employees who are pursuing further education in medical and healthcare fields.    The recipients include:  Craig Bryant, Wound Care; Lori Fisher, Med-Surg Nursing;  Monique Holzer, Operating Room; Amy Hursh, Pediatrics, Alice Orndorff, Critical Care; Patricia Gabaree, Case Management; Melissa Stoner, Patient Registration; Qiana Wilson, Critical Care Department; TerriAnn Woodring, Internal Medicine of New Oxford; and Sarah Zimmerman, Medical Fitness Center.     

The following retired Auxiliary Board members were also recognized for their individual contributions and 60 combined years of service:  Jo Ann Baum of Spring Grove; Judi Frey and Elaine Bryant both of Hanover.

According to the Annual Report, Auxiliary members volunteered a total of 6,246 hours over the last year.  The Hanover Hospital Auxiliary touches the lives of so many people in so many ways through friendship, support and service. The Auxiliary has raised approximately $2 million since 1925 to benefit Hanover Hospital and its community. 

All funds raised are given to Hanover Hospital, to purchase state-of-the-art equipment, contribute to continuing education of hospital employees, sponsor youth events, and to support the Special Needs program, which provides financial assistance to cover medical costs to those in need.
