Healthy Smiles are Topic of Diabetes Table Talk Support Group

October 8, 2009 -
Did you know diabetes can affect the health of your teeth and gums?  Most people with diabetes know the importance of managing their diabetes to prevent vision problems, but don’t connect it to their dental health.

Learn more about diabetes and dental health at the next “Diabetes Table Talk” support group program on October 12, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m., at the Hanover Hospital Wellness and Education Center, 400 York Street, Hanover.  Those with diabetes and interested family and friends are welcome. There is no cost to attend.

The guest speaker is Hanover dentist Michael B. Fink, DDS, who will explore the causes, symptoms, treatment and prevention of the dental problems connected to diabetes. He will also explain why individuals with diabetes are at higher risk for gum disease and other dental problems than people who don’t have diabetes.

“Diabetes Table Talk” is presented by the Diabetes Education staff of Hanover Hospital as part of their comprehensive diabetes management services which include:  Individual Outpatient Consultations and Diabetes Group Classes to help individuals manage and monitor their diabetes. These programs also provide nutrition counseling, injection technique, and instruction in blood glucose monitoring.
