Hanover Hospital and Penn State Hershey Medical Center Celebrate Partnership
September 29, 2009 -
Hanover Hospital and Penn State Hershey Heart and Vascular Institute at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center celebrated an affiliation today that expands the range and depth of cardiology services available to Hanover and surrounding communities. With free health screenings and remarks by Hanover Hospital and Penn State Hershey Medical Center leadership, the two organizations highlighted an expanded partnership that provides York and Adams county cardiology patients with increased access to clinical studies, enhanced heart failure management and treatment, and specialized cardiovascular services.
Since 2006, a team of cardiologists from Penn State Hershey Heart and Vascular Institute has provided consultations for advanced heart failure, rhythm disorders, and pediatric cardiology needs in Hanover. In addition, interventional cardiologists from Penn State Hershey Heart and Vascular Institute will now provide cardiac catheterization services at Hanover Hospital.
“The opportunity to collaborate and form a strong relationship with a prestigious cardiology program such as Penn State Hershey Heart and Vascular Institute will not only strengthen our cardiology services, but also help ensure the highest level of cardiovascular care for our patients,” said George Kyriacou, president and CEO, Hanover Hospital.
“As the region’s only academic medical center, part of our mission is to work with community hospitals, like Hanover Hospital, to bring the benefits of state-of-the-art patient care and leading-edge medical research to communities throughout central Pennsylvania,” said Harold L. Paz, M.D., chief executive officer, Penn State Hershey Medical Center; senior vice president for health affairs for Penn State, and dean, College of Medicine. “This affiliation makes it easier for physicians at Hanover Hospital to refer patients to Penn State Hershey Medical Center for specialized critical care, surgery and other procedures when necessary. At the same time, it enables patients to receive a wider range of advanced cardiovascular services right here in Hanover.”
The partnership also gives York and Adams county residents access to clinical research studies, including those involving new drug therapies and heart assist devices.
