Hanover Hospital Plans Third Educators' Conference

Hanover Hospital will present the 2007 Educators’ Conference on October 5th at the Hanover Community Health & Education Center.  The conference is open to Hanover Hospital staff as well as healthcare educators from other hospitals and healthcare organizations.  All licensed nurses in attendance will receive 5.5 continuing education credits.

“Follow the Yellow Brick Road to Education” is the theme of this year’s program, designed for healthcare educators who teach others as part or all of their position responsibilities.  The purpose of the conference is to help raise the bar in their continued journey toward excellence.  Topics will include:  team building, lifting a team to greatness, managing conflict, and generational issues in the workplace.

The Keynote Speaker is Andrew Steed, a motivational speaker from Dover, PA, whose engaging topic of “Lifting a Team to Greatness” incorporates traits from Wizard of Oz characters such as having courage to put the heart and collective wisdom (brains) into finding the way to deliver the greatest service, and find personal satisfaction and energy enabling us to encourage others to “walk with us.”

Other special guest speakers include:   Tracy L. Brandage, of Penn Tech/Penn State University, who will present “Resistance to Change,” and Tracey L. Brinkach, of Wellspan Education Services, who will discuss “Generations at Work,” which explains the influence of characteristics and work habits of different generations who must function as a team in the workplace.

There is also a session on Team Building which comprises different activities that can be used with staff to build a team.

In addition, “Managing Conflict” will be presented by the adult acting class of Eichelberger Performing Arts Center.  This unique segment will provide educators with visual dramatization to help them successfully manage conflict to their advantage.

According to the conference coordinator, Susan Erb, of Hanover Hospital’s Education Services, Hanover is pleased to offer the conference to outside participants this year.  For the past two years, it was offered as a networking opportunity for clinical and nonclinical educators within the hospital.  Now those same networking and professional development benefits are extended to healthcare educators throughout the region.

The Educators’ Conference will culminate with the presentation of the Hanover Hospital “Spirit Stick,” which is awarded to an employee who exemplifies a positive attitude and energy toward the pursuit of excellence through education.
