Heart-healthy, diabetic-friendly and low-cal recipes that are as delicious as they are nutritious are now just a click away on Health eCooking® a new addition to Hanover Hospital’s website www.hanoverhospital.org. Health eCooking® is a commercial free site featuring recipes, independently tested and created for people who want to cook fresh, healthy food at home.

Every month new dietitian-approved recipes are added with detailed nutrition information. Healthier versions of many favorite dishes, such as meatloaf, chicken casserole, frittatas, and yes, even a low-fat berry cheesecake are among the recipes. With the launching of Hanover Hospital’s Health eCooking®, one of the newest recipe additions is Chunky Chicken Avocado Salad. This recipe, which won the hospital’s 2009 recipe contest, was submitted by Jennifer Sherdel who works in the Medical Fitness Center.

In addition to hundreds of the easy-to-follow recipes, a popular feature on Health eCooking® are three-minute, engaging web videos featuring award winning chefs demonstrating healthy dishes in an easy step-by-step format. Also, because it is on the web, viewers can stop the video, rewind, repeat sections, raise the volume or even print the recipes. What’s more, the chefs also dish out useful cooking tips.

Health eCooking® is easily accessed from the homepage. If interested, visitors can sign up to automatically receive new recipes each month at their e-mail addresses. These recipes are timely and appropriate for each season. An example: back to school lunch recipes in September. Additionally, when looking for something specific, all recipes in the database are keyword searchable and organized by both course (appetizers, entrees, soups & salads, desserts, etc.,) and specialty diets (diabetic, gluten free, heart healthy, or for seniors).

Over 10 billion people search the web for recipes and dietary advice each year. Now, Health eCooking®, a new feature on Hanover Hospital’s website brings the search close to home.
