Hanover Hospital to Present "Diabetes Myths, Misconceptions, and Big Fat Lies"
Hanover Hospital will present “Diabetes Table-Talk – Myths, Misconceptions and Big Fat Lies,” on Monday, September 10th, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Hanover Community Health & Education Center, 400 York Street, in Hanover. The presentation is free.
According to Glenda Harmon, CDE, a certified diabetes educator, most people who have diabetes struggle with the disease at times. Part of the problem may be a belief in certain old myths and misconceptions about diabetes. Today, both our understanding about diabetes and our tools to manage it have improved dramatically.
“Diabetes Table-Talk – Myths, Misconceptions and Big Fat Lies” will provide a discussion about the myths that may be complicating your life. It is based on a publication and video of Diabetes Management and Training Centers, Inc., in Phoenix, Arizona, owned and operated by Betty Brackenridge, M.S., RD, CDE and Kris Swenson, R.N, CDE. The two have published many books, articles and brochures on the subject of diabetes.
Since 1988 Hanover Hospital has provided a comprehensive Diabetes Education program and services to approximately 500 inpatients and outpatients and their significant others each year. Over the past 19 years, area physicians have referred patients to this program, understanding that an educated patient is a more compliant patient, and compliance is the key in managing diabetes.
Hanover Hospital diabetes management and education programs are provided to individuals of all ages with Type 1, Type 2 and Gestational Diabetes. Programs include: “The Diabetes Puzzle – “Putting it All Together;” “Diabetes Prevention Program, a Diabetes Dialogue Program; and a “Diabetes Meter Day.”
