New Case Managers Assist Patients in the Emergency Department

The Hanover Hospital Case Management Department has added two Case Managers to provide services exclusively for Emergency Department (ED) patients, physicians and staff:  Merrilee Brown, RN, and Shelly Diehl, RN.

Brown and Diehl interact directly with physicians and ED staff.  They are responsible for arranging all services that are needed to give proper health care to patients, and making sure patients receive the proper level of care.  They also communicate with third party payors, assuring that all services provided are needed for the diagnosis or treatment of the patient’s medical condition, and that they meet the standards of good medical practice.

The ED Case Managers work directly with physicians and staff, and are available to meet with the patients and families.  They also provide discharge planning in the Emergency Department, and can initiate a homecare referral, order durable medical equipment, and link patients to community agencies.
