Logo Design Contest For Students Offered by Hanover Area Medical Reserve Corps
May 11, 2004

A contest for area school students is being offered by the Hanover Area Medical Reserve Corps (MRC). Students in grades 8 through 12 are asked to submit their original designs for a unit insignia (logo) for the new volunteer Corps, which is in the process of development and administered by Hanover Hospital.

The winning entry will have the distinction of being displayed on the uniform to be worn by MRC participants.

The Medical Reserve Corps is a component of USA Freedom Corps, which was an initiative of President George W. Bush following the terrorist attacks against the United States on September 11, 2001. In the event of an attack on the community, volunteers would be mobilized to help in the management and treatment of mass casualties. According to Todd Abrisch, Administrative Director of the local MRC, "Having a well trained Medical Reserve Corps that is community based and linked to local area and government emergency response plans will create an environment that will strengthen and unify the well being of the community. MRC Volunteers will be part of the overall effort designed to help save lives and limit casualties in the event of a disaster." Students wishing to participate in the contest must follow a list of guidelines in order for their designs to be considered, which include size, symbol relevance, historical significance, etc.

Entries must be postmarked by June 30, 2004.
