Chocolate Stars in "A Sweet Path to Heart and Vascular Health" Presentation

Hanover Hospital’s Heart & Vascular Institute will sponsor “A Sweet Path to Heart and Vascular Health,” a chocolate-themed educational presentation on Tuesday, May 20, 2008, from 6 – to 8 p.m., at the Hanover Community Health & Education Center, at 400 York Street, Hanover.

The program, part of the Cardiovascular Rehabilitation’s 20th year anniversary celebration, will include a Physician Panel Discussion on Cardiovascular Disease, featuring:

Lawrence Freer, M.D., Ph.D.  -- “Heart Attack”

Thomas Keller, Jr., D.O. – “Stroke”

Jose Parra, M.D. – “Peripheral Arterial Disease”

 “Cocoa, Chocolate and their Cardiovascular Benefits,” will be presented by Debra Miller, Ph.D., of Hershey Company.    She will discuss the historical usages of cocoa as a health remedy, and modern day scientific research on the health benefits of cocoa and chocolate.

A cooking demonstration featuring chocolate will also be provided by Nadine Wolf, M.S., R.D., Director of Hanover Hospital’s Food and Nutrition Services.  Participants will get to sample her recipes, which include a tasty and heart-healthy chocolate fondue.
