Hanover Hospital Welcomes U.S. Senator Rick Santorum

You are invited to participate in a Press Conference featuring United States Senator Rick Santorum, who will be meeting with hospital officials in conjunction with emergency preparedness, and the new community-based Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) unit, which is being organized and administered by Hanover Hospital.

Hanover was chosen as one of only 5 areas in Pennsylvania to receive MRC funding, a total of $150,000 to be paid in $50,000 increments over a three-year period. An additional one-time $4,000 grant was awarded to Hanover Hospital by the York [County] Foundation. The local MRC unit will comprise volunteers from all walks of life who will assist in the event of a local emergency health situation, such as an influenza epidemic, a chemical spill, or an act of terrorism. MRC volunteers will also work together year-round to improve the overall health and well-being of their neighborhoods and communities. Senator Santorum has served in the U.S. Senate since January of 1995. He has been elected to a second term as Republican Conference Chairman, the party's third-ranking leadership position in the Senate. A frequent party spokesman, he is the youngest member of the leadership and the first Pennsylvanian of such a prominent position in nearly 30 years. [He has had a key role in the development of the MRC initiative, in response to the USA Freedom Corps created by President George W. Bush, to foster a culture of service, citizenship and responsibility among Americans.
