Hanover Hospital's Courage Club to Meet Monthly
Effective immediately, the Hanover Hospital Tobacco Cessation Program announced that "The Courage Club," a free smoking cessation support and discussion group, will meet monthly instead of weekly.
"The Courage Club" offers an opportunity for informal discussion dedicated to the exploration, encouragement and support of a tobacco-free lifestyle. Meetings are held at the hospital, in the Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehab Conference Room, on the 2nd floor.
Individuals planning to quit in the future, those who have quit but worry about relapse, or those wanting more information on how to quit smoking will find "The Courage Club" a friendly, safe and supportive environment which can empower participants in their personal growth goals while promoting fellowship and connection.
Established in 2005, the group is unique because it is conducted by Hanover Hospital volunteers – not by paid employees. They are members of the community and represent all walks of life.
They are ex-smokers and graduates of "Freedom From Smoking" quit groups, who are anxious to
offer participants a unique forum to optimize their health and provide a stepping-stone to further
individuals' personal goals.
The group leaders who chose to go through the training program did so for a variety of reasons… to reaffirm their own commitment to being tobacco-free…and to share their belief in the cause, and in helping others to gain a better quality of health, and a heightened sense of self-efficacy and self-confidence. Rather than lecturers, they serve as extended family and positive role models.
The next "Courage Club" group will take place at 6:30 p.m., on Monday, March 5th, and will
meet the 1st Monday of each month thereafter. There is no cost to participate. There is no
registration, commitment, or membership required. Interested individuals are welcome to attend
whenever they wish to do so.
