Pink Out Cancer Fund

Women of the Greater Hanover Area with breast, ovarian, cervical or endometrial cancer and emergent financial needs may qualify for assistance by the Pink Out Women’s Cancer Fund.

Administered by Hanover Hospital’s Case Management Director, the Pink Out Fund can help with non-medical expenses, such as rent, mortgage, utilities, food, special equipment, appliances or supplies, transportation expenses, and childcare costs.

The Pink Out Fund was the idea of breast cancer survivor Jane Rice, founder of the local breast cancer support group.  “There is a tremendous financial burden for women dealing with surgical and follow-up cancer treatment,” she explains.  “Many times these costs are so prohibitive that women have to make tough decisions between spending for cancer medication and putting food on the table.”

In 2007, a committee of dedicated, passionate individuals was formed, and a Pink Out fundraising event was planned.  That event and subsequent events have been so overwhelmingly successful that the Fund’s contributions were extended not only to women with breast cancer, but to those with any women’s cancer.

To date, over $37,000 has been given from the Pink Out Cancer Fund to help women with their daily living expenses, as well as wigs, prostheses and special garments not covered by insurance but crucial to improving a patient’s self-esteem and recovery.
