UPMC Pinnacle Completes Affiliation with Hanover HealthCare PLUS

Posted Date: 9/1/2017

The UPMC Pinnacle Board of Directors announced today that UPMC Pinnacle has completed its affiliation with Hanover Healthcare PLUS (HHCP), the parent company Hanover Hospital, after receiving all necessary regulatory approvals. The effective date is September 1.

“We are honored to welcome Hanover HealthCare PLUS and its employees to UPMC Pinnacle,” said Philip Guarneschelli, president and CEO of UPMC Pinnacle. “Its medical staff and employees are dedicated to their patients, and we are delighted to join them in their effort to make the communities they serve healthier.”

The community is invited to join in the celebration at the Flag-Raising Ceremony on September 6 at 10:30 a.m.

This new partnership demonstrates UPMC Pinnacle’s commitment to the region and its goals to grow healthcare services and advance quality care to meet the evolving healthcare needs of communities in central Pennsylvania.

UPMC Pinnacle is working with health plans / insurers to continue contracts currently in place at the hospital to support continued network participation for patients and payers. The hospital will maintain its current name on all signage and communications for a period of time post transaction.

The agreement includes a commitment from UPMC Pinnacle to retain the current leadership team and employees in good standing for at least 12 months, to ensure that all charitable donations given to Hanover Hospital will remain in the community, and to have the local board of directors play a role in governing the organization.

Hanover Hospital continues its non-profit status and has adopted UPMC Pinnacle’s charity care policies, mission, vision and values.

UPMC Pinnacle acquired Carlisle Regional Medical Center, Heart of Lancaster, Lancaster Regional Medical Center and Memorial Hospital of York in July 2017. On September 1, 2017, UPMC Pinnacle acquired All Better Care Urgent Care Centers. With the addition of Hanover Hospital, UPMC Pinnacle now owns and operates eight hospitals with approximately 11,000 employees and 2,900 total medical staff members, and 150 outpatient and ancillary facilities.
UPMC Pinnacle will serve as the healthcare hub for central Pennsylvania, a 10-county area including Dauphin, Cumberland, Perry, York, Lancaster, Lebanon, Juniata, Franklin, Adams and parts of Snyder counties.

“Hanover Hospital and UPMC Pinnacle have always maintained a complementary focus of providing community-based care,” said Guarneschelli. “This affiliation of two well-respected and financially stable healthcare organizations continues our efforts to develop more innovative approaches to effectively coordinate and manage patient care under current and proposed payment models and allows us to seamlessly expand the depth of care the hospital provides to the local community.”
